This is the fourth and final show done just for fun for 2024. It is entitled American Heartland and uses music from both Arrangers Publishing and Hal Leonard Publications. This music is representive of American folk or country dance and parts do sound like a square dance or barn dance. The opener (or pre opener) is Tennessee Waltz by Redd Stewart and Pee Wee King and was made popular by Patti Page. This arrangement is by Tom Wallace. The 2nd movement is Hoedown from Aaron Copland’s Rodeo. This was arranged by Jay Dawson. The 3rd movement is Tennessee River by Randy Owen which was made famous by the country group Alabama. This was arranged by Tom Wallace. The closer is American Barn Dance, an original composition written and arranged by Richard Salcedo.
The band consists of 72 winds, 10 battery percussion, and 16 colorguard. I experimented with some things including the guard, trumpets, and tenor saxes actually doing a waltz (sort of anyway) and the guard meaning to do a leg kick routine to Tennessee River (though it looks more like Riverdance). This show has 50 sets.
