Luke McMillan is from Abilene, Texas, and is a free lance composer who specializes in marching band compositions.  Luke was formally the Assistant Director of Bands at Wylie High School in Abilene.  His works are played throughout the state of Texas and have done well at the region, area, and state levels.  I had the opportunity to write drill to six of his compositions in 2015 and worked with him on Edna High School’s 2011 Texas State Show entitled Teamwork.  Columbia High School has played The Bells in 2014 and Dreams and Nightmares in 2015.

The “Dean” of small school marching band writers, Barry Hurt currently lives in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, after a long and distinguished career at Plainview High School where he directed that band to four Texas State Marching Championships.  His compositions are always at the State Marching Contest and do well at the regional and area levels.  His works are logical and very entertaining.  I have had the opportunity to write drill to at least a dozen of his compositions including Columbia High School’s 2013 show entitled Play Ball!  A Baseball Tribute.
