This is the 2nd of five shows that I am planning to do for fun over the next few months. This is Americana and is a show with American music; not necessarily patriotic music though the closer is definitely patriotic. The selections are Home on the Range by Larry Kerchner, Aaron Copland’s The Promise of Living published by Arranger’s Publishing and arranged by Jay Dawson, and Trooper Salute which is a dedication to the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps arranged by Jay Dawson. Trooper Salute is one of the older Jenson Publication songs that has been reissued by Hal Leonard. It includes the following: When Johnny Comes Marching Home, Shenandoah, The Battle Cry of Freedom, and The Battle Hymn of the Republic.
This arrangement of Home on the Range is not as available as it used to be. For those that like DCI, this arrangement was the same as the Sky Ryders in 1983. For those with Plano East Band ties from 1987, this is the same opener we did that year though we changed some of it including adding The Cowboys as the opening tag and featured trombones in the middle with the trumpets. I believe Plano Senior High did this same arrangement in 1992.
Anyway, have a Happy New Year everybody!
