Since it is New Year’s Eve and the eyes of the world will be on New York tonight, here is something for the day. This is Empire NYC. Yes, this is the music Columbia High School played for their competition show and it is who is playing in this recording. However the band size and the drill are different. This show has 35 sets and is for 84 winds.
The music was arranged by Jair Klarfeld with percussion by Jared Hackett. The show represents a traveler visiting New York City at night. The opener is Wild Nights by John Adams and represents the chaos and craziness of New York. The second tune is the familiar On Broadway made famous by The Drifters and George Benson and it represents the fun nightlife the city has to offer. The closer is Empire State of Mind by Alicia Keys and brings in the beauty of Manhattan at night.
This was a fun one to do this year and some good memories as I did this show as the first “fun” example for 2022. Happy New Year everybody!
