2019 UIL State Marching Contest, Day 1 Recap
I got to the Alamodome just after 4:00pm and the first band I saw was Wylie East. And it was the first wow of the day. I grew up near Wylie and it was just a little town when I moved here in 1982. It has grown quite a bit. Rouse, Lebanon Trail, Midlothian and Sharyland were the bands I liked the most today. And a shout out to Foster who is in the same region that I am in, number 13.
The 5A contest is a completely different animal from what I deal with normally but you can’t help but be impressed. Lots of great playing and marching happens on the biggest scale that will happen this year. Love it! The story telling aspect really comes through the big boys.
Ending it with UT didn’t hurt!
I got here later so I could work my band as they have a Veteran’s Day performance on Friday. Tomorrow, I will catch the last half of the 1A preliminaries and then watch the finals of the 5A contest. I will be at the 3A preliminary contest all day on Wednesday.
But now, to bed! More stuff tomorrow.
