So, there is one more band to go but this is worth celebrating (though admittily, I had very little to do with this). Nine of the bands that I wrote for received the esteemed UIL Sweepstakes trophy. To earn this award, the marching band needs to make a first division or superior rating and the varsity or top band must receive a first division in both their concert evaluation, which is two pieces off a graded list and a march of the directors choice, and a first division in their sightreading evaluation which is getting a piece for a first time, the director having a certain time to rehearse, and playing it. This is the goal for most groups every year. They are:
Big Spring High School, Big Spring – Gabe Martinez, Director
Ganado High School, Ganado – Mandy Keen, Director
Brazosport High School, Freeport – Dennis Boucher, Director
Stafford High School, Stafford – Rod Rodriguez, Director
Columbia High School, West Columbia – Jared Hackett, Director
Orangefield High School, Orangefield – Phillip Maldonado, Director
Runge High School, Runge – Coral Charles, Director
Tom Moore High School, Ingram – Samuel Bigott, Director
Monahans High School, Monahans – Joe Barrow, Director
Congratulations to all these groups. This is good stuff!!!
